Meet Bruce ADOPTED!

bruce 1

Bruce is a gorgeous 6-7 year old Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler). He was raised by an elderly woman, who passed away two years ago. He then took up residence with her brother, also elderly, who has sadly just passed away himself. So, Bruce now finds himself homeless again. He is ready to start a new chapter in his life, and would really like to be outlived by his family for a change!

Bruce is a true gentleman. Calm, smart and well behaved. He knows many basic obedience commands, is very well mannered, quiet, and is fully house trained. He walks beautifully on leash and LOVES walk time. He is not very vocal (except for some comical grunting), so he may be ok in an apartment, with lots of walks.

Bruce was previously living a fairly sedentary life and as a result is carrying a little extra weight. He is currently 64 lbs, and his ideal weight is closer to 55 lbs. He prefers to lounge around rather than be very active right now -- except when it comes to walk time! Then he is spinning in circles at just the thought of his walk!! He will need a slow introduction to more rigorous forms of exercise to build up his endurance. He loves to play fetch and he will bring the ball right back every time and drop it at your feet for you to throw again, just don't throw it too far yet.

bruce 2

Bruce loves the company of people and bonds quickly and closely with his humans. He has always lived as an only pet, and that is his comfort zone. As a middle aged dog, we would prefer to place him in an only animal household, rather then force him to adapt. If he is going to live with other dogs, they should ideally be calm, respectful dogs. When he first arrived, we placed him in a foster home with 8 other animals (3 dogs and 5 cats) and he was clearly stressed. We opted for a foster family with no other pets, and he is much happier. That's not to say that he doesn't like other animals, he does, just that he prefers a quieter home, at least for now.

Bruce has not lived with children before, and as a result, it is not recommended that his new home have young children (under approximately 8). However, he is not displaying any behaviour that concerns us.

Bruce is the kind of fella that wants to play a game of fetch, go for a nice walk, then curl up at your feet and snooze the day away (until it's walk time again).

If that sound like the home you have to offer, Bruce would love to meet you. He may be the loving, loyal companion you've been looking for.

Bruce is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on his vaccinations, and microchipped.

Come meet Jynxie & Coco this Saturday at PetValu Barrhaven!

Two very sweet dogs are excited to meet you this coming Saturday, July 26th at the CRO Meet & Greet at PetValu Barrhaven. They hope that one of you will fall in love with them and want to make them a part of your family :-)

If you stop by, please be sure to say Hi to Jynxie. He’ll be there giving out doggie kisses from about 10:00am to noon.

Jynxie is a loving and social dog who gets along with everyone! He is 8 years old and weighs about 70 lbs. We think he is a Catahoula mix with a bit of Boxer in him… the rest is a mystery. He has a striking white stripe down his back that makes him look quite dapper :-) He’s sweet and loving and a really good boy.

And Coco will also be doling out the kisses from about 11:00am-1:00pm.

Coco is a 3-5 year old Shepherd mix who came to Catahoula Rescue as a stray. She was thin and frightened, her feet were raw and she had suffered a spinal injury. Coco has had 7 months of both physical and behavioral rehabilitation in her foster home and has come leaps and bounds. Her physical injuries have healed. Her emotional self is a thousand times better. She’s happy, gregarious and playful without being high energy. She is wonderful with everyone she meets, loves her humans, little and big and greets everyone with a lean in to be petted.

And of course, there will be other available CRO dogs there who would love to meet you :-) Times for each dog are approximate. Click a dog’s picture to read his or her complete profile.

Meet Delilah ADOPTED!

delilah 3

Meet Delilah! This sweet doll is about 40lbs, and 7 months of age. She will continue to grow, but is not expected to be a very large dog. She will be spayed on July 21st.

Her breed mix is quite the mystery! Everyone we ask has a different idea, from Leonberger, Shepherd (German/Belgian), Spaniel, Setter, Border Collie, Aussie, Sheltie, Golden... Wookie? :-). Your guess is as good as ours. She has gorgeous red colours in her soft coat, great feathering, and very unique wispy white hairs. Simply adorable!

Delilah is as sweet as she is pretty. She is easy going and affectionate, and she is her foster mom's loyal little shadow! She is also a shy girl, having likely not been exposed to many new things over the course of her life (up until now!). The great thing with Delilah is that she gets over he fears quickly -- the first time she heard the coffee grinder, she flew to the other side of the house. By the second or third time, her ears just perked up, then she went back to sleep. Still, she will benefit hugely from confidence building, socialization and a dedicated and patient owner to help her along. Delilah doesn't want to be a wallflower for the rest of her life! Even when she is feeling unsure, her reaction is never one of aggression.

delilah 1

Delilah is happily sharing her home with another dog (large male), and we suspect she will do well with cats, as she ignores them on walks. However, we would have to introduce her to your kitties for a home with feline friends, to be sure. We are not seeing any behaviours that would concern us with children over approx 6, but she is not currently living with kids.

Delilah is obedient and calm (for a puppy!). She is medium energy at present, but as a puppy, her energy levels may fluctuate. She would love to do a basic obedience class, to show you how smart her is. She is picking up on basic cues very quickly. She does not have any housetraining accidents in her foster home, but at her age, will continue to need supervision.

She was not crate training prior to her arrival in rescue, and is quite nervous about her crate (she will stress drool excessively). She couldn't be crated for a full work day at this point, and alternative arrangement would be required until she can be properly crate trained (ie. learn that her crate is a safe place, not a stressful place).

Delilah loves toys! Her idea of pure happiness is laying on her big soft dog bed, with a big pile of toys, with her humans close by. She is still teething, but she does a reasonably good job of selecting appropriate chew items (eg. she is not chewing furniture or shoes, etc), but supervision is required. I have seen her prance off with a sock, and one under garment has already suffered a sad fate!

She is fine with all handling, and genuinely enjoys a good snuggle or a belly rub.

Delilah is up to date on her vaccines and will be spayed and microchipped prior to adoption.
