Meet Bruce ADOPTED!

bruce 1

Bruce is a gorgeous 6-7 year old Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler). He was raised by an elderly woman, who passed away two years ago. He then took up residence with her brother, also elderly, who has sadly just passed away himself. So, Bruce now finds himself homeless again. He is ready to start a new chapter in his life, and would really like to be outlived by his family for a change!

Bruce is a true gentleman. Calm, smart and well behaved. He knows many basic obedience commands, is very well mannered, quiet, and is fully house trained. He walks beautifully on leash and LOVES walk time. He is not very vocal (except for some comical grunting), so he may be ok in an apartment, with lots of walks.

Bruce was previously living a fairly sedentary life and as a result is carrying a little extra weight. He is currently 64 lbs, and his ideal weight is closer to 55 lbs. He prefers to lounge around rather than be very active right now -- except when it comes to walk time! Then he is spinning in circles at just the thought of his walk!! He will need a slow introduction to more rigorous forms of exercise to build up his endurance. He loves to play fetch and he will bring the ball right back every time and drop it at your feet for you to throw again, just don't throw it too far yet.

Bruce loves the company of people and bonds quickly and closely with his humans. He has always lived as an only pet, and that is his comfort zone. As a middle aged dog, we would prefer to place him in an only animal household, rather then force him to adapt. If he is going to live with other dogs, they should ideally be calm, respectful dogs. When he first arrived, we placed him in a foster home with 8 other animals (3 dogs and 5 cats) and he was clearly stressed. We opted for a foster family with no other pets, and he is much happier. That's not to say that he doesn't like other animals, he does, just that he prefers a quieter home, at least for now.

Bruce has not lived with children before, and as a result, it is not recommended that his new home have young children (under approximately 8). However, he is not displaying any behaviour that concerns us.

Bruce is the kind of fella that wants to play a game of fetch, go for a nice walk, then curl up at your feet and snooze the day away (until it's walk time again).

If that sound like the home you have to offer, Bruce would love to meet you. He may be the loving, loyal companion you've been looking for.

Bruce is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on his vaccinations, and microchipped.
