Meet Maia ADOPTED!

Maia

Meet the pretty and sweet Maia! We believe she is a Husky-GSD mix, and is approximately 60lbs and 4 years old.

This lovely lady was rescued by the Montreal SPCA, along with 34 other dogs, from a facility in Quebec where her basic needs were not being met. She is now in a foster home, where she is being treasured as a family pet for the very first time in her life. Don't feel sorry for her though, she is one happy husky!

Being under-socialized, she is unsure of new people, but her nature is inquisitive and affectionate. Although she is still very shy with new people, she is quick to come in for a sniff and a quick greeting, and a lick on the hand if you are lucky. Eventually she will come nearby to be patted. Given how quickly she is adjusting, we expect that in time and with proper guidance, she has the potential to be confident and well-adjusted young lady. For now, slow and steady is the name of her game.

Maia has been polite but unsure with the dogs that she has met so far. She prefers calm and respectful canine companions, rather than bouncy puppies or dogs that come rushing straight at her. She is living with another dog her age presently, and a silly flighted parrotlet. She has demonstrated curiosity towards the small bird, but has not tried to hunt or catch him.

Maia has not met children in the time that she has been with us. Right now, fast human movements can still be a bit scary for her, so an adult home, or kids around 10+, would be ideal.

Maia loves chasing toys. She will sometimes pick one up and throw it up in the air all by herself. She is good at sharing her toys with her foster dog brother too. She is not showing any food guarding behaviour.

Maia is crate trained and rides well in the car. So far, she doesn't whine, counter-surf, chew, dig, or jump up. She will bark a little when she is excited (like when her foster parents come home), but she is also possibly feeding off the energy of the foster brother. Some shy dogs will start to push the boundaries a bit more when they get more confidence, so on-going positive training and consistency will be helpful in keeping any bad habits at bay.

Maia would be a great candidate for a basic obedience class once she settles in, as she is just starting to learn her commands for the first time.

She is medium energy at present, and calm indoors, but with continued exercise and proper nutrition, her activity level may increase. She would love to accompany her humans on a run, and enjoys playing around with her foster brother.

Maia is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested (negative). She is being fostered in Chelsea (QC).

Meet Jade ADOPTED!

Jade is the cutest little girl, approximately 10-11 months old, and about 25-30 pounds. We think she might be some combination of Australian Shepherd and/or Australian Cattle Dog and/or Catahoula.

Jade came to us after someone saved her from being bullied by teenagers in a parking lot. When no one came forward to claim her, she was given a new chance to find a wonderful forever home with someone who will give her the love she deserves.

She certainly hasn't let anything in her past faze her in the slightest! Jade is happy, enthusiastic, loves people, and loves other dogs. She has been working on her basic manners with people and other dogs since no one had ever taught her, but she is learning quickly – this is one smart girl! Jade is incredibly good in a crate and hasn't had a single accident in there. She is also coming along beautifully with house training.

Jade is a typical puppy in that she has energy, loves to play, and likes to try new things, so like any puppy, she needs monitoring and redirection towards appropriate toys and behaviours. She can get a little bit exuberant with play and on a leash (especially if she sees a squirrel!), so we are working on those things and she is doing very well. Her recall is also showing lots of promise – she is getting really good at it in the house and the yard.

Jade has not been tested yet with cats or children. As for children, she is very friendly but is probably still a bit too exuberant for small kids.

Jade is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested (negative), and microchipped.

Meet Jasmine ADOPTED!

Jasmine

Jasmine is a cuddle bug who wants nothing more than to snuggle up on your lap. She is likely under a year of age and is around 30-40 pounds. She is very unique looking with her gorgeous brindle coat and one blue and one brown eye. We believe she may be a Catahoula mix.

She is great with other dogs and cats. She is spunky and loves to play. She can run for hours, but is very calm in the house. She would make a great jogging partner when she is old enough! She is loving off leash hikes with her fosters and is doing really well at checking in and not taking off so far.

Jasmine

Jasmine knows all the basic commands and is housebroken. She loves other dogs and had a blast on her trips to the dog park. She needs some leash work, a bit more crate training, and some overall confidence building. Luckily she is extremely food motivated and learns quickly!

She’s a little shy with new people, but once she warms up to you, she is the biggest suck. She loves belly rubs and always wants to be touching someone. She hasn’t met young kids, but is fine with older kids as long as they are respectful and take it slow.

Jasmine is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested (negative), and microchipped.

Meet Zeva ADOPTED!

Zeva

Zeva is thought to be a Treeing Tennessee Brindle Hound (or mix of one). She is estimated to be 2-3 years old and her ideal weight is approximately 40 lbs.

Zeva has a very loving gentle personality. She enjoys the company of humans very much. When out for a walk, Zeva wants to greet everyone, big and small. She is quiet in the home, but can be vocal outdoors, especially when honing in on her treeing skills. She has successfully treed a few small critters, proudly “singing” to alert that she has done her job. Zeva is fully house trained and knows a few basic obedience commands, like sit and down. We are working on some self control, as she is a bit bouncy when she gets excited. She is very food motivated and learns quickly. If a treat is offered, Zeva will probably do just about whatever you ask of her. She is crate trained and can also be left free roaming in the home. Zeva is always super excited to welcome you home from a day at work, her joyful expression is priceless. Sounds almost too good to be true, right! No joke, Zeva is a gem.

Zeva

Zeva totally lights up when other dogs are present. She is very social and loves to run and play. She is a strong and energetic medium sized hound with a rough and tumble play style. She is still learning the ropes of proper doggy etiquette. Zeva takes her cues from the other dogs and will quickly get the hint if she over steps her boundaries. She will bow and coax the other dogs to run and chase her whenever she gets the chance. She would love to have a fenced in yard with daily walks to keep her well exercised and in tip top shape. Zeva would make a great running or hiking partner. She has very good recall in a secure area so she would probably do well at the dog park too.

Zeva is currently living with three other dogs and five cats in her foster home. She adapted instantly to the busy household and has integrated quite easily with all of the animals. She has even been seen giving the cats kisses. Ideally Zeva would love to have another dog to play with and keep her company in her new home. She is a bit timid on her own, but with another dog to support her she blossoms and has the confidence to face the exciting new adventures that await her in life.

Zeva is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested (negative), and microchipped.
