Meet Scout ADOPTED!

Note: we are looking for a foster to adopt home for Scout in the OTTAWA, ONTARIO area. For information on what "foster to adopt," means please e-mail us at catahoulaontario@gmail.com
Scout - FOSTER TO ADOPT
Scout turned 1 August 23rd and is a Cathaoula mix (we are not quite sure with what!). He's a great boy that can be timid at first but very curious. He loves everyone he meet :-)
He is playful with most dogs (he isn't quite sure what to make of very pushy/dominant dogs yet but he is still just settling in).
Scout is house trained, and loves car rides.
Scout still has lots of puppy energy and will need a good amount of exercise daily. He is doing very well with his crate training. He cries for a few minutes when he foster mom leaves but is quiet after that.
Scouit is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on his vaccinations, and will be microchipped prior to adoption.

Meet Hudson ADOPTED!

hudson 1

Hudson is a handsome white Siberian husky, about 65 lbs, and we think about two years old. He came to Catahoula Rescue after being picked up as a stray and spending several weeks at a local pound. He is affectionate and good natured, a mannerly dog, and knows basic commands like sit and lay down. Like many huskies, he is extremely clever and learns quickly but can be stubborn, and will fit best with confident, experienced dog owner who sets rules and delivers consistency and who will be a leader. Hudson was a bit snappy at first, but this may have been from the upheaval of being in a shelter and then the adjustment to a new home, as well as testing his place in the new pack.

Hudson ADORES children, and would thrive in an environment with kids to play with. He gets along well with the other dogs in the home, and will play with them outside for hours. He would probably do best in a home with another dog to play with and occupy his time while his owner is away (or bring him to the dog parks or play dates daily). He also is good with the four cats in the home. He is not a guard dog. His attitude towards strangers tends to be welcoming, showing excitement about a possible new playmate rather than any aggressiveness.

Huskies have an instinctual need to run and travel, and it is essential that he be adopted to a home that has a large, adequately fenced area. He will require a LOT of exercise to diffuse his energy and maintain his good behavior (ie at least one to two hours of hard running or other vigorous activity each day). A tired husky is a happy husky. He is currently in a home with an underground invisible fence, and respects it well.

hudson 3

He is great on a leash, although still a little anxious while being walked in an urban area with all the strange activity and noise and will need a little more experience, but is super on quiet roads. He is also really great running beside a bicycle. It’s unlikely (due to his breed) that he will ever come to the point where he can be walked off leash without wandering off, but he is great at dog parks.

He is housebroken, and has great house manners. He rarely barks (although will stand at the door and give a small bark to be let in or outside). He hasn’t shown any interest in chewing while in the house, etc, although this would likely change if he was bored and not exercised enough. He was initially anxious in the car, but has adjusted well, and now rides quietly, although he is sometimes vocal while inside the vehicle while it’s parked.

Hudson has a heavy coat, and sheds quite a bit. He will need to be regularly brushed and/or taken to a groomer a couple of times/year.

Due to their beauty, Siberian Huskies are one of the most wrongly purchased breeds around. Many do not take into consideration their temperaments and particular quirks and are often left with an unruly, albeit beautiful, dog. Due to their instinct to wander, many Siberian Huskies are either lost, killed, or given to shelters due to uninformed owners. If you are thinking of adopting Hudson, take a lot of time to learn about the breed.

Hudson is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on his vaccinations, and will be microchipped prior to adoption.

Meet Bella ADOPTED!

Bella

Bella is an 11-month-old Catahoula mix. She is a beautiful girl who gets plenty of compliments out on walks. Bella is extremely smart and very inquisitive. She also happens to be deaf and partially blind. But don’t feel sorry for her because she certainly doesn’t let that slow her down!

Bella is excellent with other dogs and has made fast friends with her new foster brother. Unfortunately she hasn’t quite hit it off as well with the cat. While she doesn’t do the cat any harm, she wants to play with her and the cat wants none of it! Bella would be better off in a home with no cats, but another dog to be her guide would be ideal! She doesn’t live with any children, but has been around them and done very well.

Bella wants to jump up and kiss every human who crosses her path. She hasn’t learned her manners yet and will need a family to show her how to politely greet humans and other four-legged friends.

Bella

She is a master of escape and will therefore need to be crated while her family is out. She also loves to chew, but if given a good bone or a treat filled kong, your furniture will be safe!

Bella loves to curl up next to her foster mom at night, sleeps right through the night and doesn’t get into any trouble.
True to her breed, Bella has lots of energy and puppy energy at that! She requires lots of exercise to stay out of trouble. She needs to learn leash manners, but once she does she would make an excellent running partner once she has finished growing!

Because she is deaf, Bella may never be able to go to an unfenced off-leash park; however, she will need to run. She would be well suited to a family with a large fenced-in yard so she can run and play to her heart’s content.

Bella is spayed, heartworm negative, up to date on her vaccinations, and will be microchipped prior to adoption.
