Meet Diamond ADOPTED!

Diamond

“Diamonds are quite ordinary at first glance – their true beauty as jewels is only realized through the cutting and polishing process.”

Diamond truly is the epitome of a diamond in the ruff. If you can look past her physical flaws (most of which are only temporary), you’ll see a beautiful, fun, happy girl who just wants to get and give lots of love.

When Diamond first came to Catahoula Rescue Ontario, her skin was pink and raw. She had been suffering from a very treatable and non-contagious skin condition called Demodex for who knows how long. She’s been taking medication and having medicated baths for the last four months, and her skin condition has improved tremendously.

Diamond is most likely a purebred Cathoula. She’s somewhere between 1-2 years old, so she’s pretty much done growing. She weighs around 60 pounds, and is the biggest wiggle butt! When you call her, she comes to you with her tail wagging back and forth and her mouth all wrinkled up in the cutest smile :-)

Diamond is house trained and knows basic commands like Sit and Paw. Her on-leash walking needs some work, but she’s coming along nicely – except for when she sees a bunny. Then she pulllllllllllsssss really hard to get to it! She happily goes into her crate beside the bed to sleep at night, but she isn’t a big fan of being left alone in her crate when her peeps go out. She would probably do best in a home where someone is around the majority of the time. She doesn’t bark a lot, but she lets you know her displeasure about being left alone with funny moaning and groaning sounds.

It took Diamond a couple of days to settle into her foster home and have calm meetings with the other dogs in the house. Once those formalities were out of the way, Diamond fit right in, and she gets along great with her doggie brothers and sister. She’s happy to share toys and hasn’t shown any signs of having possession issues. And she LOVES to play!

Diamond would do best either in a home with another dog her size, or as an only dog as long as she gets enough daily exercise. She might be too much for small kids/babies, she is friendly and should be fine with kids about 10 and up.

With continued care and treatments from her adoptive family until her fur has all grown back in, we know our Diamond in the ruff is going to blossom into an even more beautiful girl!

Diamond is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm tested (negative), and microchipped.

Meet Jelly Bean ADOPTED!

JB1

Hi y'all!

I'm Jelly Bean! Just like my name, I'm sweet, colourful and full of energy! They think I am about a 9 month old little girl who just loves to play with my foster brother. I follow him everywhere!

I am very expressive when I am happy, my whole bum wiggles! I am some sort of a mix, possibly including Catahoula or Aussie and Beagle….but really, your guess is as good as mine! I weigh almost 50 pounds.

I LOVE to cuddle with my human family members, and I give lots of kisses once I feel comfortable with you. I am a little shy at first, and if I get scared, I will plop my belly to the ground and lose a bit of my bladder control. The more I get comfortable in an environment, the less I do this.

JB3

I have no problem whatsoever going and spending time in my crate. It's a good place where I get treats and stuff to chew on. I love to chew! When my foster brother needs a break from all that playing around, I usually get an antler or Nylabone to keep me busy. My foster home has a little bird that flies around sometimes - I find him interesting, but that's it, and I can easily be redirected to focus my attention on other things.

I travel well in the car, and will just take some time to rest or look around. I am starting to learn stuff like sit, shake, and down, but I still need some practice. I get distracted easily! Taking a basic obedience course would help me lots! I am also a bit of a toy hog, and need some practice to learn how to share toys and chew things too!

I am spayed and up-to-date on my shots and microchipped. Do you have lots of love to give and receive? Then maybe I'm the girl for you!

Meet Coco ADOPTED!

coc sitting 2

Coco is a 3-5 year old Shepherd mix who came to Catahoula Rescue as a stray. She was thin and frightened, her feet were raw and she had suffered a spinal injury. She was a very dominant girl and had trouble appropriately greeting new dogs. Coco has had 7 months of both physical and behavioral rehabilitation in her foster home and has come leaps and bounds. Her physical injuries have healed. Her emotional self is a thousand times better.

She is happy, gregarious and playful without being high energy. She is wonderful with everyone she meets, loves her humans, little and big and greets everyone with a lean in to be petted. She will always be a bit of a bossy dog in the canine world, but her social skills with new dogs have improved immensely.

Coco's biggest passion is the water. She loves to dive and swim and paddle around hunting for sticks or rocks to bring to you as a prize. She would love to be able to have regular opportunities to swim in her forever home. She sits, lies down, stays, gives a paw (then the other), and comes when called.

Coco would love a home that has another canine companion, but no kitties because kitties are way too much fun. Coco will still need regular work with canine greeting skills but she is an absolute doll who deserves only the best of the best as she makes her way to her forever family.

Coco has mild hip dysplasia, which is not in need of medical intervention and does not seem to cause her any discomfort, but is apparent in her gait. She also suffers from mild bouts of Ataxia (a central nervous condition that was caused by her spinal injury). These bouts have become less and less severe as her spine has fused, and are most apparent if she has over exerted herself. She may always require a moderated exercise regime – lovely long walks are fine and she LOVES them, but running and jumping in a dog park may not be recommended (she will not be a jogging or hiking partner).

Coco is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm tested (negative), and on heartworm preventative. She’ll be microchipped prior to adoption.

Meet Romeo ADOPTED!

RomeoRomeo is a gorgeous 1-1/2 year old male Catahoula mix. Romeo is playful, gentle, soft, and always eager to please, which makes him highly trainable.

Romeo loves everyone, including dogs and cats. He is an affectionate boy that loves to cuddle and getting belly rubs. He loves everyone he meets and everyone falls in love with him. At first we debated changing his name, but after getting to know this sweetheart, we realized the name fits him like a glove. He will be your best friend and be there to keep you company. He likes to receive hugs and tries to give them back.

He is most happy when he's with canine companions. That is also when he is the most playful and the only time you hear him occasionally bark. He’s otherwise very quiet; the most noise you’ll hear from Romeo will be his tail wagging because he’s happy to see you or a yawn after a nap. Romeo would love a home with canine companions or who will bring him for regularly play dates with other dogs.

He can sit, give paws, lie down, and come or go on command and is trained to do his business outside. He is left in the house uncrated when his foster family is away and does not chew and is calm until they return.

On walks, Romeo has to introduce himself to every dog or human in his sight, as well as smell every scent along the way. This social boy is still learning how to walk calmly on the leash as he pulls quite a bit, however, with the use of the no-pull harness he walks much better. With some training this will improve greatly.

Romeo

At the dog park, you will see him in his element. If he were a human, he would be a fantastic football player. He is quick and agile when playing with other dogs; smart too, fakes one direction then goes the opposite. Loves to be outdoors – in the water, mud, grass, rain, or shine, this guy is just happy to be outside with his family.

Romeo stayed temporarily in a home with cats and did well. He once even let a kitten come up and grab some of his food right from his food bowl as he ate!

Romeo deserves the most loving home, with all the attention a family can give. He’ll be by your side and is a delight to have around.

Romeo is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, heartworm tested (negative), and on heartworm preventative. He’ll be microchipped prior to adoption.

Meet Ariya ADOPTED!

Ariya

This sweet girl is Ariya. She is believed to be a Labrador/Catahoula Leopard Dog mix, which gives her such a striking appearance. She is said to be 8 years young – but don’t let her age fool you! Ariya is full of life and energy. She weighs approx. 60 pounds.

Ariya has a wonderful personality and is eager to please. She loves to be close to her family and loves to get attention. After you’re done petting her, she will try to get some more love out of you by softly and gently pushing her head into your hands. She’s a quick learner and will do anything with positive reinforcement and when a treat is involved.

This girl loves both people and animals alike. She currently lives with a big foster brother and a cat. She does well with any dog she meets and loves to be around children. She’s a very gentle girl who wants to be loved by anyone she meets, doesn’t matter if they are 2-legged or 4-pawed.

Ariya

Ariya loves to go for walks and is excellent on the leash. She has good recall when at the dog park and loves to chase after balls. She brings back the balls diligently, and now we’re working on getting her to give back the ball. We tried ‘drop it’, but she seems to think this means ‘drop dead’ and she goes to lie on her side. Such a silly lady!

When she’s outside in the garden, Ariya will let you know if there are any visitors coming. However, she doesn’t do this when she’s inside the house.

Ariya will be a great addition to the any family!

Ariya is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm tested (negative), and on heartworm preventative. She’ll be microchipped prior to adoption.

Ariya

To apply to adopt Ariya, please complete the adoption application form. For more information on Ariya or any of our other dogs available for adoption, please contact catahoulaontario@gmail.com

Meet Gypsy ADOPTED!

Gypsy is available to homes in the Ottawa area ONLY, as she will continue to require vet care (boosters and spay surgery when age appropriate), which we will provide at our cost.

Gypsy - OTTAWA ONLY

This little bundle of joy is a 2 month old Pug puppy that can't wait to snuggle up with you. Gypsy loves playing, she loves people, she loves affection, she's good with dogs and cats (although she prefers the company of people right now) – she's just a baby full of kisses and playfulness. She is looking for a home that loves fun and snuggles as much as she does – could that be yours?

Gypsy is still 100% puppy. She is starting to get the hang of house training and does very well with a pee pad, but it will take time. She will require a puppy-proofed home, a crate to keep her safe, as well as mid-day pee and snuggle break, and/or someone home more frequently, for several months to come.

Gypsy is learning that her crate is a good place to be. She sleeps in it all night with very little opposition. She is getting used to being on her own for short periods of time during the daytime. She is enjoying her alone time more and more every day and does not cry for long before she settles down and waits for you to return.

Gypsy - OTTAWA ONLY

She is living with other dogs and cats, and fits in very well. She is a confident puppy, not shy or scared of much. She is not currently living with children, but should do well with respectful, dog-savvy kids. She is learning that fingers and feet are not chew toys and redirects easily. She is always under foot and being so tiny at only 3.5 lbs, it's important to keep an eye out and be careful not to step on her. Silly Gypsy.

Gypsy is a well rounded, happy-go-lucky puppy that (like all puppies) will need continued socialization and training to become the best adult dog that she can be. Please note that a basic obedience class will be a mandatory condition of her adoption, as training is essential to her future well-being.

The cutest thing you will ever see is Gypsy all snuggled up in her bed, snoring like a champ. She will make one lucky home very happy.

Gypsy' adoption fee is $500, and includes her spay surgery at 6 months of age, 3 rounds of puppy boosters, rabies vaccination, de-worming and microchipping.

Gypsy - OTTAWA ONLY

To apply to adopt Gypsy, please complete the adoption application form. For more information on Gypsy or any of our other dogs available for adoption, please contact catahoulaontario@gmail.com
