Meet Coco ADOPTED!

coc sitting 2

Coco is a 3-5 year old Shepherd mix who came to Catahoula Rescue as a stray. She was thin and frightened, her feet were raw and she had suffered a spinal injury. She was a very dominant girl and had trouble appropriately greeting new dogs. Coco has had 7 months of both physical and behavioral rehabilitation in her foster home and has come leaps and bounds. Her physical injuries have healed. Her emotional self is a thousand times better.

She is happy, gregarious and playful without being high energy. She is wonderful with everyone she meets, loves her humans, little and big and greets everyone with a lean in to be petted. She will always be a bit of a bossy dog in the canine world, but her social skills with new dogs have improved immensely.

Coco's biggest passion is the water. She loves to dive and swim and paddle around hunting for sticks or rocks to bring to you as a prize. She would love to be able to have regular opportunities to swim in her forever home. She sits, lies down, stays, gives a paw (then the other), and comes when called.

Coco would love a home that has another canine companion, but no kitties because kitties are way too much fun. Coco will still need regular work with canine greeting skills but she is an absolute doll who deserves only the best of the best as she makes her way to her forever family.

Coco has mild hip dysplasia, which is not in need of medical intervention and does not seem to cause her any discomfort, but is apparent in her gait. She also suffers from mild bouts of Ataxia (a central nervous condition that was caused by her spinal injury). These bouts have become less and less severe as her spine has fused, and are most apparent if she has over exerted herself. She may always require a moderated exercise regime – lovely long walks are fine and she LOVES them, but running and jumping in a dog park may not be recommended (she will not be a jogging or hiking partner).

Coco is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm tested (negative), and on heartworm preventative. She’ll be microchipped prior to adoption.
