Meet Jewel ADOPTED!

My name is Jewel. My foster mommy says it is because I am soooo precious – just like jewels! (It is also because of my special eyes - I have one blue and one amber eye).

I am about a year old and a combination of sweet and spunk! I love to meet everyone - people, dogs, and cats included. I just love to give kisses and get pats. I live with a mini schnauzer foster brother and I am very gentle with him. I was a bit jealous of my food and water when we first met, but my foster mommy says it was just stress and hunger from my long trip from Kentucky. Now my foster mommy can leave toys and food out and I share very nicely.

My foster mommy tells me that I walk fantastic on a leash most of the time. She says I am the best foster on leash that she has had so far, but that I do still need to work on not pulling when I want to make a new friend. I don’t like to get too far ahead.  I often look back and check that she is still there.

Foster mommy says I just need to work on my confidence a bit. I admit I am startled easily by loud noises and things like fireworks and thunderstorms. BUT I am still curious and like to explore new smells. I won’t let my fear stop me from meeting new friends and having fun. But foster mommy thinks that I might be better with slightly older children and in a quieter home (not an apartment) for my own peace of mind.

Oh…. have I told you about my special skill? I am a very high jumper! I love to leap! Foster mommy thinks I might be good at dog sports because I am such a good jumper. She thinks I should try out agility or dock jumping (when I find out if I like to swim). But first I need to learn how to listen a bit better so I can be really good at it so I might want to go to obedience school first.

That is me in a nutshell. I am spayed, microchipped, crate trained, and up to date on all my shots. Please fill out an application if you think I am the sweetheart for you!

Meet Zoey ADOPTED!

zoey 1
Zoey is a 2 to 3 year old Beauceron or Shep-Rottie mix (we are not sure - she looks like a Beauceron however!). She is a total love bug! She lives for attention from her foster family. Nothing is better than crawling onto your lap for a cuddle and a scratch.
Zoey was found as a stray and therefore is still learning her new name, but she is picking it up quickly! She does respond to whistling for her, and she knows Sit, Down and Paw.
zoey 3
Zoey may have been an outdoor dog as she is not yet house broken, so we are working on this with her. We are also working on crate training her. She will go into her crate and is quiet if given a bone or kong with a treat inside, but she does get anxious being left alone in the crate and will bark.
She is good with other dogs of all sizes and temperament. She currently lives with two Chihuahuas, a Great Dane, and two cats. Zoey is great with with the cats as well and does not bother with them other than sniffing them.
We are also currently working with her with off leash recall, and she is doing very good. She is very food motivated, and therefore is a fast learner.

Zoey will be UTD on all shots and will be spayed near the end May. For this reason, she will be available for adoption in early June.

Meet Gidget ADOPTED!

Gidget 3

This little gal could wiggle her way into any heart! She is just about 35 lbs of smiles and wiggle bum. We're not sure what her breed is, but most likely a Mountain Cur mixed with something smaller. She's a young adult lady - under three years old.

Gidget is an easy gal to get along with. She is quiet, non-destructive, house trained and crate trained. She has a lovely soft coat, and loves affection, but doesn't demand it. She loves to play, and would be happy to have another dog in the house that she could run around with and chew on from time to time. She easily shares food and toys with her humans and fellow canines.

Gidget tree

Gidget loves dogs but she is under-socialized (we believe she was used for breeding), and needs a proper introduction. She is not a dog park dog just yet. Gidget needs a home that is committed to her socialization. Around the house, she is not a high needs dog at all - she likes to go to bed early, and can happily relax through a movie.

Gidget is not currently living with kids, but is expected to do well with kids as she loves being handled and has no food issues.  She does sometimes try to climb into your lap, but she's not big enough to knock over any little people. She is not yet tested with cats.

Gidget is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and will be microchipped prior to adoption.

Meet Harley ADOPTED!

Harley is an almost-4-month old Lab-Shepherd-Rottweiler mix (our best guess). He is going to be a big boy once he is fully grown!

He is very sweet and loving and social with humans and dogs. He is learning the basic commands (sit, down) and house manners. He LOVES to play in the snow.

Harley will need plenty of daily exercise and continued socialisation to ensure he grows up to be a great dog. He’s off to a great start having been around adults, kids, and other dogs.

Harley is neutered and up-to-date on all his vaccinations.

To apply to adopt Harley, please complete the adoption application form. For more information on Harley or any of our other dogs available for adoption, please contact catahoulaontario@gmail.com

Meet Gator ADOPTED!

Gator on patio

Hey there, my name is Gator. My foster mom calls me Gator Potator, and sometimes Potato Head. I’m pretty sure my head isn’t a potato, but whatever – I have a comfy place to sleep every night and I get fed breakfast and supper every day and I go on lots of walks and I get to play at the dog park and hang out with my four legged brother and sisters at home. So I’m not going to complain about being called a potato!

I don’t want to sound cocky or anything, but as you can see, I’m a pretty good looking guy. And just a bit on the clumsy side. I’m about 60 pounds of chocolaty brown & creamy white playfulness and fun and love. I’m house trained, and I know how to Sit and Lie down and Come and Give. Although sometimes I just don’t feel like cooperating, like when I’m busy rough-housing with another dog at the park. So you’ll need to be firm with me and not let me get away with being a butthead.

Potato head…. butthead…. but it’s a cute head, don’t you think?

gator head

I really like people, especially the ones that pat me and give me treats. Those are the BEST people! But I like other people too – big, small, short, tall, doesn’t matter at all. The only thing is that because I’m a bit on the rambunctious side, I might be a bit much for a small person. So even thought I like small people, I should probably live in a house with medium and tall people.

I met a cat once – I wasn’t that impressed. I just ignored him. Till he started wrestling with me – then I couldn’t resist the urge to wrestle back! But I played nice and didn’t take him down, even though I’m pretty sure I could have. When the wrestling was over, the cat went back to being not very interesting. I gave him a few sniffs, but that was about it.

gator playing

I meet lots of dogs at the dog park – they’re WAY more interesting than the cat! I want to run and play with all of them! Sometimes when I play, I get too enthusiastic and I look and sound like I might eat the other dog. I wouldn’t, honestly! But I do have this habit of using my mouth when I play (and sometimes when I take a treat too). And when I’m busy playing, I don’t want to stop. When I hear my foster mom and dad say “Gator, COME!”, I know I should listen to them, and sometimes I do – but other times I’m so excited to be playing, I just can’t stop. I guess I probably should learn better manners at the dog park. If you could help me out there, that would be great!

So to sum me up in a nutshell – I’m sweet, friendly, playful, loving, smart, and handsome (I know, I’m being cocky again!) I can also be pretty energetic and a bit on the stubborn side when I’m in play mode. But I really want to please you and make you proud of me, so if you promise to teach me how to behave nicely at the park, I promise to listen and work hard at being the most awesome dog ever!

gator on bed

Sending you lots of sloppy doggie kisses,

Gator Potator

P.S. I’ve been neutered (sad day that was!) and I’m up to date on all my vaccinations.

Meet Ivy ADOPTED!

Ivy is a very sweet and a very good girl. Within a week she was already showing her foster mom just how good a girl she is. She goes into her crate nicely to hang out or her dog bed, walks well on leash, and responds very well when her foster mom calls her. She's good in the car, and entertains herself in the house/yard with her toys.

Ivy is approximately 1.5 years old and a pretty red patchwork pup.

Ivy is good with other dogs and cats (she is being fostered with a cat - she shows some curiosity but respects the him).

Ivy is timid when first meeting people or dogs, but does not shy away and warms up and relaxes quickly.

She is still young at heart and can get pretty exited when playing with a toy and her human. She can be mouthy in her excitement, but as soon as the toy is removed she settles down.

Ivy is spayed and up to date on all her vaccinations.

To apply to adopt Ivy, please complete the adoption application form. For more information on Ivy or any of our other dogs available for adoption, please contact catahoulaontario@gmail.com

Meet Lambo ADOPTED!

Lambo
Allow me to introduce myself, the name’s Lambo, for Lamborghini. Just like the car, I have a lot of flash, a powerful engine, and in my company you will feel luxurious! I overheard mom on the phone the other day and she said my coat is soft like velvet. I wonder what velvet is or if is edible sounds kind of tasty!
I am just over a year old. I am up to date on all my shots, neutered, and weigh eighty pounds. Although I am considered a heavyweight in size, I have the most lighthearted disposition. I have a special disposition for children of ALL ages. I am often referred to as a gentle giant... not to be confused with the green giant on the can of peas!
Lambo 3I am a busy boy that loves to be both physically and mentally stimulated. You cannot keep a guy like me down. I always have a bounce in my step and love to feel the wind in my ears. Speaking of wind in my ears I love car rides! They are thrilling to me. Who needs a roller coaster, lets hop in the car! Maybe we could take the car to the dog park?
I know I am a dog, but there is definitely a part of me that is butterfly – Social Butterfly, that is! I get along great with dogs and these things the humans call cats. They are fun to chase, but I am respectful and when they stop running, I stop too. Then I am onto the next thing to keep me amused.
I have this one particularly silly antic that always makes mom giggle. When she goes for a shower, I always make my way in to check on her. At first she called me a Peeping Tom, but now she knows that I am Be On The Lookout Lambo. I have to make sure that when she goes behind the shower curtain she does not pull a Houdini and disappear on me! After that initial check, I just rest by the door. Mom calls me a cheeky monkey I really do not see the monkey in me maybe a few generations back on my mothers side?
I probably should mention a few manners that are paw-sitively wonderful. I am fully housetrained. I know sit, down, stay, paw, and my recall is quite proficient. I live to please my humans and want nothing more then to make you proud of me.
When I was a pup, my people abandoned me at the vet office. It hurt, but I make sure to keep my heart open so that when my fur-ever family walks into my life I will be there to welcome them with open paws. I know that there is a BIG master plan for my future. Even though I have my cheeky habits, I promise you this – I will ALWAYS try my best and do whatever it takes to show you I am devoted to you. Please give me a chance. Just remember, to the world you may be one person, but to me you would be my whole world.
With lots of sloppy kisses and a whole heaping bunch of love,
Lambo

Meet Derby ADOPTED!

Derby 1

Derby was born on January 7, 2013 and is a lab-rottie-shepherd mix (best guess).

He is such an amazing little man. He is a pleaser for sure. He is so smart. He catches on to new things quickly and with the greatest of ease.

Derby knows his name, basic commands Sit, Come, No, Drop it, outside, and treat. He is at the counter right away when coming in from outside, just patiently waiting for his treat. Derby is fantastic on a leash, he walks right beside you – although occasionally his curiosity gets the better of him :-) He always tells me he wants to go for a walk as he goes and sits where I hang the leash. He does great in the crate, no issues. Training, he is 99% trained (any accidents are human error for not catching him at the patio door).

Derby 2

He is great with other dog and kids.

Derby is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.

To apply to adopt Derby, please complete the adoption application form. For more information on Derby or any of our other dogs available for adoption, please contact catahoulaontario@gmail.com

Meet Loki ADOPTED!

Loki 2 Loki is a 7 to 11 month old Catahoula X (possibly mixed with a spitz breed and/or terrier breed). She's about 35lbs, and will get a bit bigger, but will probably not be larger than 50 lbs.

Loki loves belly rubs more then anything else in the world. It is her greatest reward!

Loki's foster mom chose the name Loki before meeting her (Loki is the Norse God of Mischief).... truth be told, she is really not that mischievous at all. She is fully housetrained and has great manners. She is not a chewer, not destructive, and does very well in her crate. She is overall a medium energy dog -- she can keep up at the park, but does relax easily (sometimes will lay down for a rest at the park). She is very responsive to training, and could learn just about anything you take the time to teach her. So far, she knows "sit", "down", "roll over" and "stay", and she will walk well with on leash (not pulling) as long as you keep up her training and reinforcement (she just learned and will have it mastered soon).

Loki loves dog parks and so far has good recall in off leash parks and on hikes. She is excellent with other dogs (big and small), and can play with any dog. She has played with mini-breeds and Danes. She has not yet met a cat since arriving in foster care, except in pet stores, where she did very well. She would have to be cat tested for applications with cats.

Loki has no issues around food or toys, and will easily relinquish whatever she has for her foster family.

Loki is such a unique dog, in looks and personality. She is really quite the clown. Sometimes she tries to roll over for a belly rub, and accidentally rolls down a hill or into the water.  She's a fun, sweet girl to have around -- the kind of dog you could take anywhere with you. She would love visits to pet stores, dog parks, camping trips, hikes, car rides, family visits and anything else you can think of.

Loki 5

The one thing that her foster family would like to see worked on is that she is protective, particularly of her foster mom (not so much of her foster dad). She barks outside when she hears/sees things (very much like a terrier, though we are working on this). She is a bit protective of her mom on walks too, and will bark at someone if she doesn't like the look of them, usually men. She ADORES anyone that comes to the house, though, and anyone she has a chance to meet (men and women). An owner on the more confident side would be best for this reason, although she is completely compliant in all other regards.

Loki 6

Loki is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and will be microchipped prior to adoption.

To apply to adopt Loki, please complete the adoption application form. For more information on Loki or any of our other dogs available for adoption, please contact catahoulaontario@gmail.com
